چکیده

We examine the functional hypothesis of bidirectional associative memory in a pair of reciprocally projecting cortical cell groups. Our simulation model features two-compartment neurons and synaptic weights formed by Hebbian learning of pattern pairs. After stimulation of a learned memory in one group we recorded the network activation. At high synaptic memory load (0.14 bit/synapse) we varied the number of cells receiving stimulation input (input activity). The network `recalleda patterns by synchronized regular gamma spiking. Stimulated cells also expressed bursts that fascilitated the recall with low input activity. Performance was evaluated for one-step retrieval based on monosynaptic transmission expressed after ca. 35 ms, and for bidirectional retrieval involving iterative activity propagation. One-step retrieval performed comparably to the technical Willshawmodel with small input activity, but worse in other cases. In 80% of the trials with low one-step performance iterative retrieval improved the result. It achieved higher overall performance after recall times of 60}260 ms. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Effect of Protein Malnutrition on Efferent Projections of Amygdala to the Hippocampus

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Previous investigations have shown that protein malnutrition can alters the structure and function of some areas of hippocampal formation. We investigated the effect of protein malnutrition on amygdaloid projections to the CA1 hippocampal area. In this study we investigated level and pattern of distribution of efferent projections from amygdala to hippocampus in the rat by...

Associative learning and memory duration of Trichogramma brassicae

Learning ability and memory duration are two inseparable factors which can increase theefficiency of a living organism during its lifetime. Trichgramma brassice Bezdenko (Hym.:Trichogrammatidae) is a biological control agent widely used against different pest species. This research was conducted to study the olfactory associative learning ability and memoryduration of T. brassicae under laborato...

The effect of reversible inactivation of raphe nuclus on learning and memory in rats

The role of raphe nucleus (R.N) and serotonin in some behaviors such as sleep, cognition, mood, and memory has previously been reported. The median raphe (MR) nucleus is a major serotonin-containing cell group within the brainstem and is one of the main sources of projections to the septum and hippocampus. The hippocampus is widely believed to be essential for context-conditioning learning. Mor...

The anatomy, physiology

The perirhinal cortex is a polymodal association area that contributes importantly to normal recognition memory. A convergence of recent findings from lesion and electrophysiological studies has provided new evidence that this area participates in an even broader range of memory functions than previously thought, including associative memory and emotional memory, as well as consolidation functi...
